I’m not really an art kind of person. But several days ago, I saw some interesting pictures on instagram. After a little bit of research, I found out that it’s from Mr. Brainwash “Life is Beautiful” exhibition in Ara Modern Art Museum. I just really like what I saw, so I decided to come to this exhibition. And I like it more than I expected, so here I’ll share how the exhibition was. Check it out~
Who is Mr. Brainwash?

Mr. Brainwash is the moniker of Street Pop artist Thierry Guetta. Born in France and based in Los Angeles, Mr. Brainwash has been pushing pop culture’s envelope for almost a decade, bringing his art to the street, the gallery, and onscreen. Armed with wheat paste, spray cans, brushes and paint buckets, Mr. Brainwash began attacking the streets in 2006 with stencils and posters of beloved icons and quickly becoming a renowned figure in the burgeoning underground art scene. Now, Mr. Brainwash has brought his street art to six continents and attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors to his massive, multi-story warehouse solo art shows. He has created cover artwork and album campaigns for Madonna, Michael Jackson, Rick Ross, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Keys, and others. He starred and was the subject of Banksy’s 2010’s Academy Award nominated film “Exit Through The Gift Shop.”
Before this one, I’ve visited some contemporary art exhibitions. Most of the time I was confused with the collections and just can’t understand the meaning behind the creations. That’s why I don’t expect that much from this exhibition. Hahaha. But…. I really enjoy this one!
First, the collections are somehow feels familiar. It feels like looking at those pop art images on tumblr or pinterest but as 3D version. So it’s much more interesting. Even though it feels familiar, Mr. Brainwash still has his own characteristic. It’s shown by the characters appear on his art and how he uses those spray cans or paints.
Second, while I’m reading each item description, as a commoner, I can easily understand the meaning behind those collections. It’s relatable and obviously shown on the art piece.
The collections range from painting, street art, to different kind of art installations. It’s allowed to take picture on the exhibition, but make sure to turn off the flash! This exhibition is such a great place for you who loves taking picture. xD The drawback is… the museum space is quite limited and it’s difficult to take full picture of some huge-sized collection. And another thing… even though I can understand it as the artist’s characteristic, some collections can be seen as repetitive. But, overall I still enjoy this exhibition~

*Last entrance and ticket sales an hour before closed

– Public (19-64 y.o) 10000 KRW
– Student 8000 KRW (student card required)
– Teenage (13 – 18 y.o) 7000 KRW
– Children (7 – 12 y.o) 6000 KRW
*You can buy the ticket directly in the museum or buy it online in Interpark or Naver Booking. (I bought mine in Naver because it has 10% discount and I still have some naver pay point, yeay! And when I left review, I also got naver pay point~) There’s also 50% discount every last Wednesday of the month, but only valid for onsite ticket sales.
